The book Optic Nerve and Ruffini Ending was made from Optic Nerve I (copy20), Optic Nerve II (copy10), Ruffini Ending I (copy20) and Ruffini Ending II (copy10). These 60 drawings stem from two anatomy diagrams – the Optic nerve Papilla and the Ruffini ending (eye and skin neurotransmitters) – copied (twice) during a period of three years (2005-2008).
"From a printed diagram – I call it 'stem-diagram' – I drew an exponent number of offsprings in chain relationship, copying each drawing from the previous one and repeating the process. The 'copy exponent' determines the number of drawings within a series.
Within the logic of my 'copy work' no drawing has the exclusive status of an 'original'. It is an element within the entire flow, which only makes sense as part of the mechanics, like some piece belonging to a motor. A copy can only exist as an emanation of the original, in a no particular, no exceptional status, only as a transgression. But in the succession, each specific copy has its own necessity and uniqueness as a link of time and form from the previous copy to the next. It is a new value as such, not the value of “the original”, but a non-hierarchized re-product value."
